1) Master and Servant - Image

The most common topic, of portraying roles or certain identities, would be a “master” and “servant” scenario. Usually, these roles define actions in a very noticeable way. In this image, the roles of a master and a servant are depicted. As you can see, the servant is serving his master, by polishing his shoe, while the master relaxes, and passes orders. This shows that the servant is almost sacrificing himself to his master, and obeying his command. It also shows, that the servant is giving into his master under some circumstance, whether it be his helplessness, or fear. This relates to the Barber and Torres from Lather and Nothing Else, because in the story, Toress plays a role, which is to be feared of, or more authorized to give demands, almost like a master. On the other hand, the Barber plays the role of someone who listens, obeys commands, and is under the helplessness to serve people, because of his job, just like a servant. This goes to show, that the roles in our lives can also rank us according to status.
